Now MS Office users can get the advantage of the free Open Document Format (ODF)
It's one of the biggest wars in the history of computers: Windows vs. Linux, Microsoft vs. the "Open Source world"....and one of the main battles in this war is...the office products: word processors, spreadsheets, etc.
Microsoft has its own 'standard' format (as well as in all of their products). Regarding the open source side, OpenOffice, StarOffice and other office suites (mainly for Windows) are compatible with the ISO/IEC 26300 ODF standard, which opens a new perspective to organizations that want to adopt this open standard.
With the release of this plugin, every MS Office user can export their documents to this open standard, improving the interoperability between (mainly) Linux and Windows users.
You can read, edit and export Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents to the ODF format. It works with Office 2000, XP 2003 and 2007.
This is not an external program, you have nothing new to learn: it's just an add-on for your daily programs: use the file->open and file->save dialogs!
In Excel and PowerPoint, you will see an extra toolbar with these options in order to facilitate your work.
